U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly rejected a draft resolution demanding an immediate start to withdrawal from Afghanistan. The initiator of such a legislative measure was made by Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who is considered one of the most radical liberals on Capitol Hill.
According to ITAR-TASS, Kucinich believes that the previous head of the administration of George W. Bush, and the present – Barack Obama – have violated the War Powers Act of 1973, without having the clear consent of the Congress on the escalation of hostilities in Afghanistan.
When voting Kucinich supported by 64 congressmen, mostly Democrats, representing the left wing of the party. 356 members voted against the lower chamber.
Supporters of the resolution argue that it is time for legislators to decide whether they want to war, which is now in its ninth year, went further, claiming lives of American soldiers – there has already killed nearly a thousand troops – and wasting hundreds of billions of dollars of American taxpayers.
Obama, who became a Nobel Peace Prize last year, promised to start withdrawing troops in July 2011.
Meanwhile, in Afghanistan in the process of increasing the numbers of U.S. and NATO – to September total to exceed 150 thousand people.
