Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ordered the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to begin work on self-enrichment in the nuclear center at Natanz to the level of 20 percent. He said it took place on 7 February in Tehran opening ceremony of laser technology.
Iran needs about 120 kg of enriched uranium to 19.75 per cent to be used for medical purposes of the Tehran research reactor (TIR).
According to the developed in October last year, the IAEA framework agreement, the Islamic Republic has been requested to remove 1.2 tons (about 70 per cent of lessons in the country) for the beneficiation of low-enriched uranium in Russia and the subsequent manufacture of nuclear fuel in France.
Tehran for a long time did not agree to adopt this scheme, pointing out that it can only gradual exchange of nuclear material, and only in the Islamic Republic.
Iranian officials have said that if prior to the beginning of February with the IAEA would not be reached for TIR 20 per cent of fuel, then Iran will produce its own, said Bakililar.AZ.
Recall that early last week, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, speaking live on Iranian television, said Iran was ready to send to the beneficiation of uranium abroad, and that he did not see “special difficulties in the exchange (nuclear fuel), which can be produced in Iran and beyond, in the case of signing the treaty”.
