In turn Ekmaleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC Secretary General also noted the importance of such contacts.

Note to approve the current Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmunssena , NATO had a very long time to persuade Ankara. Turkey was very unhappy candidate Dane, who is perceived in the Muslim world, almost the enemy of Islam. Discontent has grown from a scandal with those published in a Danish newspaper back in 2005 cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Then later Rasmunsen refused to condemn the Danish newspaper, saying his refusal by saying that in the West freedom of the press and no Prime Minister has no right to push for democratic newspaper.

However, after Turkey was given the word that one of the Vice Secretary General of NATO will be a representative of this country, and the new secretary-general go to contacts with the Islamic world, Ankara withdrew its veto on the appointment Rasmunsena.

Therefore the present meeting Rasmunsena with Ihsanoglu can be regarded as the new secretary general contact with the Islamic world.
