Obama was unable to persuade Erdogan to support sanctions against Iran –

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has refused to endorse calls for new sanctions against Iran, arguing that they will be ineffective. Thus, President Barack Obama has failed to persuade the Turkish leader the need for sanctions against the Islamic republic. Erdogan said that Turkey wants a diplomatic solution to Tehran’s nuclear standoff with the West.
After a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington on Monday, Erdogan said that Turkey does not intend to support any a proposal to impose new sanctions against Iran by the UN Security Council. Erdogan also offered to mediate in talks between Tehran and the West.
